A Kong a Day

A Kong a Day

Here at Doggy Cool we are always trying to think of new ways to treat your dog - specifically ways to feed your dog Doggy Cool Munchy Meat Treats!

One great suggestion we've had is to use Doggy Cool along with a Kong. Most dogs gobble up Doggy Cool treats pretty quickly, but this way your dog has to work for his treats - exercising his brain and his jaw at the same time!

Kongs are made from a super bouncy, super strong rubber compound that makes them nearly indestructible and are come in a range of colours and sizes. Chewing on a Kong will not only keep your dog busy, but clean his teeth at the same time!

We suggest you simply stuff a Kong full of Doggy Cool Munchy Meat treats and give it to your dog before you go out. Your dog will spend hours munching away trying to get those tasty treats out!

Kongs are available from most vets or pet supply stores, for more information head to the Kong website: www.kongcompany.com

Doggy Cool Winners

Doggy Cool Winners

Check out the winners of our last competition, we had a great response - there are some seriously talented pooches out there!

The winner is Miss Milly from Geraldton in WA, her owner Kath wrote in to tell us that:
"Every night Miss Milly pulls back our bed covers and puts a toy in the bed for us."
How thoughtful! Congratulations Kath, Miss Milly has won a Doggy Cool dog coat that will keep her looking trendy!

Our runners up are:

Bella the Doberman from South Kalgoorie, her owner Alison wrote in to tell us that: "Every night before dinner Bella will sit, shake both paws and give me a big kiss."

Helen tells us that her dog Napoleon loves his Milo: "Each night my husband has a Milo and Napoleon sits patiently on the couch while he drinks it, he is finally given the tumbler when there is a centimeter of Milo left at the bottom. Napoleon's tongue can't reach the bottom of the glass so he tips the tumbler up on his nose so he can get to the rest!"

And finally Kez from Clayfield in Queensland wrote in about her little Shitzu [pictured]: "He has perfected the art of Zen meditation. He finds a comfy spot and sits motionless for a time before lifting his head and staring at the ceiling for about 10 minutes. Then he turns his head to the right and the left all the while keeping his body completely still. He does this several times a week to keep his karma energised!"

These guys have won themselves a fantastic Doggy Cool frisbee! Thanks for your stories, and remember if you have a story you would like to share about your dog, drop us a line at contact@4legs.com.au

Trick of the Month - Crawl

This month Johnny and Hercules demonstrate how to teach your dog to crawl. This is a simple trick to teach and most dogs pick it up easily, however your dog will need to know how to drop before he can master this trick.

As always with trick training, pick a quiet spot away from lots of noise and distractions and arm yourself with plenty of Doggy Cool Munchy Meat Treats.

Start by getting your dog into a Sit position, reward immediately.

Next, ask him to Drop. Again, reward immediately and offer lots of praise.

Once he's in the Drop position, hold a treat just in front of his nose and say "Crawl"

If your dog tries to stand up and follow the treat, get him back into a Drop and start again.

Holding the treat low to the ground in front of your dog's nose, slowly pull the treat away saying "Crawl"

As soon as your dog starts to edge forward following the treat, reward and give him lots of praise.

Reward even if he only moves forward a couple of inches without standing up.

Repeat the last steps, gradually increasing the distance between your dog and the treat.

Remember, teaching your dog a new trick is always easier if you make it fun. So be patient, give plenty of praise and always reward!

Are there any particular tricks you would like us to feature? Drop us a line at contact@4legs.com.au

Dogoscopes

Libra

23 September - 22 October
The Libra dog will never settle for second best. A born activist, he will campaign tirelessly for more treats, longer walks and the best spot on the couch. The Libra pooch thrives in a single-dog household where he relishes his top-dog status. A lover of luxury and a firm believer in equal rights, the Libra dog doesn't appreciate being left alone (especially outside) and is convinced he is entitled to sleep on the bed beside you. Although at times stubborn, the Libra pooch is a happy and frienly dog who loves to keep you company. This dog is happiest just hanging out with you and munching on a treat.

The Sky Bark Pet Lounge in Los Angeles offers pets and their owners a place to chill out and enjoy a drink together. Humans can enjoy a beer, while their canine companions can sample a range of tempting beverages such as chicken broth with beetroot juice, served in a martini glass! The trend seems to be catching on with serveral neighbouring bars and clubs now opening their doors to four-legged patrons.
